What is green tea extract?
Green tea has been considered a medicinal beverage in Asia for almost 4,000
years. With such an abundance of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, green
tea has quickly become the “must have” health ingredient to consumers. Green
tea extract is a highly concentrated part of the camellia sinensis leaf. To
date, there has been a lot of research done that may validate the health
benefits of green tea.

Can green tea help me lose weight?
A study published in the International Journal of Obesity concluded that
green tea extract increases the burning of calories and fat needed to lose
weight.* Previous animal studies have shown that green tea extract increased
thermogenesis, which is the generation of body heat that occurs as a result
of digestion and absorption of food. Another study conducted by Dr. Abdul
Dulloo in Switzerland concluded that green tea extract has thermogenic
properties in men and promotes fat oxidation beyond that explained by its
caffeine content per se. It appears that green tea extract has the potential
to promote weight loss.*
I heard on Oprah that I can drink green
tea, not exercise and still lose weight. Is this true?
According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, green tea provides
energy and accelerates calorie burning. This was emphasized by Dr. Nicholas
Perricone (of the New York Times bestseller, The Perricone Prescription)
recently on an episode of Oprah. He stated that if you substituted green tea
for your normal coffee and did nothing else differently, you would lose 10
pounds in six weeks.
Green tea is not a magic bullet for weight loss. You have to combine it with
other lifestyle changes, including exercise and reducing calorie intake.
