Frequently Asked Questions about Aloe C Defense

Does taking vitamin C help you to avoid getting colds?
Some nutritionists have called vitamin C the cure for the common cold. Although it does not cure a cold, numerous studies have shown that vitamin C is effective in reducing the severity and the duration of a cold. One study showed vitamin C reduced the duration of the cold by 21%, and another found vitamin C reduced the severity and length of respiratory infections in a group of marathon runners. Vitamin C supplementation supports your immune system, and it’s the immune system that keeps you strong and fights germs that enter your body. Taking extra vitamin C may help even if you’ve already caught a cold.*

My ophthalmologist suggested I take an additional dose of vitamin C for optimum eye protection and health. What is the reason for that?
Vitamin C is highly concentrated in the eye, and protects against free radicals. Free radical damage to the lens is one cause of cataracts and macular degeneration, which is the leading cause of impaired vision and blindness. An ongoing nurses health study found that women using vitamin C supplementation long term had a 77% lower risk of age-related cataracts compared to women who did not take the supplement.*

I’ve heard about the topical uses of aloe vera, but what about taking aloe vera orally?
Aloe vera has many applications. It is great both topically and orally, and is used in many applications such as skin care, dietary supplements and herbal beverages. Aloe vera is rich in vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

Benefits of aloe vera taken orally:

  • promotes gastrointestinal health*
  • powerful antioxidant with anti-viral properties
  • promotes wound healing*

Why do athletes take large doses of vitamin C?
Three studies evaluated the effects of vitamin C supplementation on muscle damage following exercise. It appears that higher doses of vitamin C (800 mg/day to three grams/day) may have some benefit in reducing muscle soreness and damage following exercise.* However, lower doses (200 mg/ day) have little benefit.

What are the benefits of combining vitamin C and aloe vera?
A recent study conducted by Dr. Joe Vinson at Scranton University, Scranton, Pa. concluded that consuming vitamin E or vitamin C with aloe vera increased the half-life of the vitamin in the plasma. This research suggests that you can increase the bioavailability of vitamin C when it is combined with aloe vera.*

My friend recommended this product to prevent and heal my cold sores. Does that work?
We have many customers who have reported that their cold sores healed quickly with the use of Aloe C Defense. Many people say that when Aloe C Defense is used as a gargle and then swallowed, it helps to prevent outbreaks. This is anecdotal evidence, as we cannot find scientific studies to support the healing of cold sores with the combination of vitamin C and aloe vera.
